Media: Most Powerful Weapon

Media was not granted freedom until 21st century. There were only 2-3 channels which were run by government. Mainly in Musharaf era media was given freedom and from then private channels came in and whole scenario changed gradually.  Live coverage of incidents, political happenings, meetings, demonstrations, and talk shows discussing the role of government and opposition parties have all been very much on the agenda. Media has achieved a paramount importance and is now considered as fourth pillar of state. Today media has powerful influence in opinion shaping of people. Media has been influential in recent years as it played an important in the restoration of Supreme Court of Pakistan. But as time is passing media has also started showing its negative sides, media has gained superb power but still it is under the influence of owners who only show one-sided picture of the situation, meaning it has become “BIASED”.  The true spirit of Journalism is to deliver the news in its real form without distorting the facts. The people of Pakistan are unfortunately uneducated follow the news or depiction of media as right and ultimate thing.
The role of Media is very important in the development of any country but if it works according to the true spirit. It can educate people on certain important issues and it can also help people in getting awareness of what is going on around them in this country. News channels in Pakistan are also biased as they support one political party or the other in order to gain materialistic benefits in the form of commercial ads. If we want our country to make rapid progress, then we have to educate general masses by telling them truth, which is the basis responsibility of media.
