An open letter to Asif Ali Zardari!

Dear Mr President,

I am writing to you as you are the co-chairman of the largest political party in Pakistan and with no change in the current situation of the country after endless promises it is you whose attention I would like to seek.

Sir with due respect I would like to say that unfortunately under your governance we have entered 2012 and the political turmoil is still at its peak. We have been enduring and ignoring false promises, lies and everything else that has befallen in our lives ever since you have been blessed with the seat which you are adamant on not leaving.

In the Musharraf era the foundations of Pakistan began shaking but there was hope to hold on but ever since you took over I feel there is nothing except darkness to look forward to. Sir it is under your rule that many have lost sanity, mothers have lost sons, fathers have lost jobs, children have died of hunger, mothers have killed children and women have committed suicide.

My country that was once a symbol of identity, comfort and security to me has become my biggest concern. The label that we are Pakistanis has put a vast majority of us in trouble out of which some are known and others unknown. The intellectual gem the daughter of Pakistan Afia Siddique has been physically and verbally battered and bruised but you didn’t take a stand for her. She was a mother, daughter, wife and friend. I am sure Sir if it had been your very own daughter the situation would have been different.

What is worst that could have happened to us? There is no electricity, water, gas and wheat in the country. These are necessities that are primarily important in any setting around the world but we didn’t even get to live this because you were probably busy filling your bank account.  Sir what about the flood victims what about the millions and billions of dollars that we received it’s a big question mark on Pakistan. We are suffering for it because the debt that you have incurred we have to make up for it and we didn’t get to enjoy it.  Pakistan is under so much debt that every new born baby has a debt of Rs59.000 on him/her according to the debt report released in 2011 even if they haven’t taken a penny from anywhere.

The situation gets all the more sad when we see brutality and injustice thrive in the country while the truth is buried deep. The Sialkot killings where two brothers were most inhumanly killed with the reason being theft probably was one of the most gruesome displays of violence in the history of Pakistan that too in a public area.

Sir I am sure you see what is going on in the country and I hope with all my heart that this letter reaches you and if it does at some point all I want you to see is that not just one but millions of individuals are suffering because of you.

Sir I hereby request you to resign as the president Pakistan and give a chance to those who claim with assurance, sincerity and truth as a weapon to bring change. Let Imran Khan be our next president!!

  1. Youve accurately identified some of the major problems we face, but Imran, no doubt a great man, an honest man, but, everyone's loyalty should be towards Pakistan, not a particular individual, but yes, someone does have to take the first step and that person can very well be imran khan. My point is, all of us, should not blindly follow or support imran, or for that matter any individual.
    A well wriitten article.

  7. A well written piece which attempts to open the eyes of a shameless president. The worst president in the history of Pakistan who pretends to be oblivious to what is happening around him. Who spends 80% of his time outside his country and the remaining within the barricades of the president's house pocketing billions of dollars in corruption. Who has no interaction with his people and who has brought this country to the point of total collapse and lawlessness. If only there were more people like Nida Akhtar who could raise their voice and unite to drive away the political forces in this country that are operating a puppet government.Imran Khan no doubt is the only leader with the sincerity, will and vision to return Pakistan to the state that Quaid e Azam had in mind. Looking forward to reading more articles from this writer.

  9. Why does the writer seem to imply as if before President Zardari Pakistan was a heaven on earth ? as if there was no corruption, poverty, inflation etc before him and everyone was living a happy and peaceful life ? Please Don’t blame him for the mistakes of past 64 years.Surely things could have been better then they are now but The current govt has done tremendous things to restore democracy which include 18th amendment ,provincial autonomy , NFC award and the list goes on !Practically The President has no authority now as he gave up all his powers to parliament in the 18th amendment therefore holding him responsible for the mess our society is dug deep in for the last 4 decades and asking for his resignation makes no sense at all. And Mr. President if you do read this at some point ,please know that you are doing a fine job! Not all people are blind haters ! Keep up the good work.
